44 HOSTS - 1 CITIES - 57 ACTIVITIES (AND RISING)
Nico Prins will take you to the middle of the port operations of the large city ports Waalhaven en Eemhaven. This is the place where inhabitants and visitors can feel and experience the beating heart of the world economy for 24 hours of the day, 7 days of the week. Here you get to see in a unique way while walking through the area, guided by the City Narrator Nico Prins, how Rotterdam is working on the future developments. In an interactive way Nico will introduce you to one of the best hidden secrets of Rotterdam. Nico Prins is professional storyteller with more than 20 years experience and is inhabitant of Rotterdam in heart and soul, born and raised between the ports. He knows his city and the history of the place and likes to tell about the development and groth of the city. The city of Rotterdam is a changing city in a changing world. Rotterdam recently lost its position as largest port in the world, but is still the leader when it comes to innovation. Rotterdam is a city with big ambitions in the development towards the sustainable world. Nico has a long history in working with sustainability and is able to explain in a simple way how the process works towards a more sustainable world. In the area Heijplaat/RDM he found his place and created Open air museum Rotterdam. All aspects of the city of Rotterdam and the ports are coming together in a small area: the industrial cultural heritage of a no more functional large shipyard RDM with the adjacent garden village Heijplaat, 100 years ago specially built for the employees of the yard, now form an area that is in the middle of a process of transforming to a centre of knowledge, it is a model of the sustainable world of tomorrow where working, learning, leisure and living go hand in hand on a few square kilometers. Nico is actively involved within this transition for over a decade and knows all the ins and outs of the story. With Nico as guide in the area Heijplaat/RDM the transition of the industrial activities á la 20th century to the sustainable development of the 21st century truly comes alive in the only real open air museum Rotterdam.
